Found this wonderful ad on gumtree today:

On 23/02/2010 on 10:00pm news said that people can set up new schools with government funding. This is for smaller cschools and classrooms.
This will reduce the number of pupils in schools and will help to give more support to choldren in classrooms. I am looking for someone that can help work in a team to complete this project and will be able to carry out research required. We will not start until we get the funding from the government. So if you work for the government or if you have contacts in the government then please get in contact with me and we can discuss in more detail. This needs a lot of thought as it is a big project. We are also looking for someone that can design a small school on their computer and send the file to me to look at. I will design in side of it where the classromms are to go etc.

Well.  I’m sure my choldren would be very excited about a cschool and the classromms etc that go in side of it.  And how eezy I wuld sllep at nite knkowing how well edyukated they’d be thir.

Hearts and flowers? Feh

Nifty fact you might not know: St Valentine’s bones are supposedly right here in Glasgow! In Govan, no less, I believe.  How on earth he ended up there, I’m not entirely sure…

I am no acolyte of the good saint, it has to be said.  This morning I cobbled together a card for Mr Rhubarb from these instructions – it turned out pretty well, and I was pleased with the result.  But we didn’t exchange gifts.  I made heart-shaped waffles for breakfast, and the girls and I made Danish woven hearts earlier in the week,  but mostly that was for child-entertainment and because everybody likes waffles.  But having spent a couple of decades getting exactly NO valentines ( or at least, none that I wanted to receive) I don’t get overexcited about the event.

The way I see it, if you’re in a relationship then woo-hoo, you don’t have to go through this charade.  And if you’re not, well, it’s just another reason to eat a bar of galaxy/drink some wine/read a book/watch a depressing foreign film about why love is so crap and you wouldn’t want to be in a relationship anyway because you value your freedom and principles anyway so there.

It’s been a bit of a revelation to me this year to discover how – um – enthusiastic our American friends are about this one.  Like, for weeks Martha et al have been giving craft and recipe ideas, decorations and wrapping.  And children have to give valentine gifts to all their class?  Why?  Really, why?  Because they love them Surely not every kid. I certainly didn’t heart a whole bunch of kids I went to school with.  I’d rather have poked them in the eye than carefully made a heart-shaped lollipop cover for them. Because its meaningful? How?  Because it’s expected? Or because it’s a bit cold and dark in February so here’s a nice easy heart and flower and chocolate based event that can be easily marketed? Jings.  I think I can hear the sound of  bones spinning in Govan from here…
